That back to school season is coming upon us once again so if you are dreading hearing your alarm ring at 6am and are looking for anyway to get another 15 or 30 mins in bed, here are some tips to be able to get out the door faster.
1. Make a list
A lot of times when I have to get up early in the morning, I find myself in this weird state of pure confusion where I just don't really know what's going on. I don't know where to start my morning routine and by the time I figure out everything I have to do in the morning, I have wasted so much time. So if you are also someone that needs to take a minute every morning just to get your brain working again, I suggest just making a list the night before.
Besides the fact that making a list is proven to help you accomplish tasks, it will also ensure that you won't forget anything. Your list doesn't have to be super complicated or long because as long as you write your usual morning routine, your body will get in the rhythm of completing the tasks without those weird gaps of time in between.
2. Closet Organizer App
My next tip is to save us all from the impending doom that comes from just standing in front of your closet and staring at your clothes for 15
minutes without any inspiration. I have found that choosing my outfit is the step that I waste the most time on every morning so my tip for this is to get a closet organizer app. Just like I'm sure many of you spend a good 10 minutes on your phone in the morning checking snapchat and then randomly scrolling through your Instagram explore page, I also have a tendency to check my phone as soon as I wake up. But now instead of aimlessly scrolling, I like to take some of that time to pick an outfit.
My favorite app is called SmartCloset and it not only allows you put together outfits, but also post them and see the outfits that other people have put together for inspiration. This app is amazing because as soon as I'm done with my makeup, I can put on my clothes and don't have to sit in complete boredom wishing that I could come up with something to wear.
I haven't fully documented all my pieces, but even with what I have documented so far, it has been easier to see all of the clothes that I have
3. Put your coffee to brew while you get dressed
So after I put on my clothes and do my makeup, I would usually go downstairs for coffee and some breakfast. And more often than not, I would just end up sitting in my kitchen doing nothing while my coffee brews. So now, right when I wake, the first thing I do is go downstairs and put my coffee to brew. This way, when I'm done with my morning skincare routine, I can go downstairs, grab my coffee, and drink it while I'm getting ready.
4. Sleeping in Braids
If you are someone that is used to getting up early in the morning to do you hair, this hack will save you so much time, you won't even believe. If you like curls in your hair, I recommend getting some overnight curlers because they will roll your hair for you while you sleep so all you have to do in the morning is take them out. They are different than just normal curlers because they have little cushions in them so it doesn't hurt to sleep on them. However, if you not are attached to having your hair done up in curls every morning, but rather just want your hair to look like you put a little bit of effort into, try sleeping in braids. For some natural waves, I just put my hair in one or two braids, but if I want more voluminous waves, I will sleep in two French braids. And again all you have to do in the morning is take them out and VOILA!
(So this is a side hack, but French or Dutch braids will last through an entire night of sleep so if you want to wear french braids the next morning, braiding them the night before will also save a huge amount of time.)
5. Try to wash your face as soon as you get out of bed
I know that I said in hack #3 that before I go and wash my face, I will make coffee, but while the coffee is being brewed, I recommend washing your face right after because splashing the cold water on your face will wake you up. I find that it is really hard for me to get ready if I still feel really sleepy and as soon as I wash my face, I feel like I have so much more energy to get ready for my day (the coffee also helps with this). Really, anything that will help you feel more awake you should try to do as soon as you wake up. Whether is it splashing cold water on yourself or playing some upbeat music, once you feel awake, your morning routine will go faster.
